A Dutchess woman who police say was high on drugs and in possession of a loaded handgun fled the scene of an accident.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from Wappinger arrested Brittney C. Holpert, 30, of Wappingers Falls, for criminal possession of a firearm, felony, criminal possession of a weapon, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanors.

Troopers responded for a report of a hit-and-run collision that occurred on Widmer Road and Wildwood Drive. The caller reported that a vehicle exited the roadway, struck a sign, and continued to a nearby residence where it was located by responding police units.

Police say an investigation revealed that Holpert had operated the vehicle while impaired by drugs and her driving privileges were suspended. She was also found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.

Holpert was arraigned at the Town of Wappinger Court. She was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
