Dutchess, Ulster Community College Tuition To Rise

If the budgets pass, tuition is expected to rise at two Hudson Valley Community Colleges. SUNY Dutchess and SUNY Ulster will see an increase if county Legislators and state government approve of the plan according to The Daily Freeman.

The SUNY Ulster budget stands at $24.2 million and tuition is expected to increase $150 per year to $4,480. The added funds are needed due to declining enrollment according to school president Alan Roberts. SUNY Dutchess has a $66.8 million budget and tuition there will raise to $3,696, a 4.8% increase. Dutchess County will contribute an additional $1 million to the school according to the new budget

While both will see a tuition increase, they remain among the most affordable community college options in the area. According to the Freeman, 70% of the students who graduate, do so with no school debt.

Ulster County will vote on the plan in June, Dutchess County will follow with a vote in July.
