A Dutchess County man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on Route 9.

On Sunday evening, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit began an investigation into an accident that occurred on Route 9 north of Spring Road.

Police say a 2011 BMW 328i, driven by an 18-year-old woman from Cypress, Texas, exited a local business. As she left the business, a 2003 Honda motorcycle, operated by 28-year-old Brian Freer from the City of Poughkeepsie, collided with the car on Route 9.

On and off-duty officers with the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Arlington Fire Department performed CPR on Freer at the scene.

He was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center where he was pronounced dead Sunday evening.

A section of Route 9 remained closed in both directions overnight until the completion of the accident investigation early Monday morning.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit was assisted in the investigation by members from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Division at 845-485-3680.
