Following a routine traffic stop in Dutchess County, police say a man was found to be in driving impaired by drugs and alcohol and in possession of narcotics.

Sunday, New York State Police from Poughkeepsie arrested Joseph M. Barry,53, of Pleasant Valley, for driving while ability impaired by the combination of drugs and alcohol, aggravated unlicensed operation, felonies, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Police say they stopped Barry on North Avenue in Poughkeepsie for an equipment violation. During the traffic stop the arresting officer alleged that Barry was impaired by drugs and alcohol. Barry was allegedly in possession of cocaine.

Barry was charged a Felony DWI due to two prior DWI related convictions within the previous 10 years.

He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation when Troopers discovered that his driving privileges were revoked.

Barry was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is due to reappear in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on Tuesday evening.
