Department of Corrections Trainee Exam Scheduled

Today, November 18th, the Department of Civil Service posted a press release with the date of the next Correction Officer Trainee Exam date. The exam is set for February 11th, 2017. There are trainee positions open statewide, but if you are interested in a position you must be registered for the exam by December 20th. 

Participants must be willing to go through the year long trainee process. The starting rate for a Corrections Officer in New York State is $40,590 with a pay increase of $42,695 after six months. After the year long probation period Corrections Officers can make up to $48,889. DOCCS Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci said that "The Civil Service examination for the position of Correction Officer offers a tremendous opportunity for those New Yorkers who meet the qualifications to pursue a valuable career and join a growing family of diverse state residents who safeguard their State."
