Breast cancer. Two words that can carry so much heartbreak, fear, and anxiety. As with any cancer, early detection is key, and to that end, mammograms have been one of the most important tools that doctors have.

Often times, a sonogram will also be ordered by a doctor in cases of dense breast tissue, or if something just doesn't look clear on the mammogram. It's a simple test that can help detect or show that everything is okay.

There's another test available, one which is often out of the reach of women due to it's cost. It's a 3-D mammogram, which can be much more effective in detecting cancer in dense tissue, which is more common for women of color.

Imagine having your doctor say that they think this test could really help you, or your mother, or sister, but, sorry you can't get it, because it's too much money, or you can't afford any more co-pays.

Today, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that insurance companies are required under New York Insurance law to to provide medically necessary coverage for 3-D mammograms without co-pays, coinsurance, or deductibles.

This can not only help save lives, but also provide peace of mind for thousands of women throughout New York.
