Crime is dramatically rising in a number of Hudson Valley counties. Other local areas are seeing a decrease. Here's where your county stacks up.

NYUP.com looked into recent crime data from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services to find out where in New York crime is increasing or decreasing.

The website used crime counts from all indexes to figure out which counties fell or rose from 2016 to 2017.

Below are the counties in the Hudson Valley where crime has risen:

Putnam County 

  • Percent change: +3.9%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 628
  • Total crimes in 2016: 603

Sullivan County 

  • Percent change: +4.0%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 1,280
  • Total crimes in 2016: 1,229

Greene County

  • Percent change: +15.9%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 632
  • Total crimes in 2016: 546

Columbia County

  • Percent change: +17.1%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 970
  • Total crimes in 2016: 834

Below are the counties in the Hudson Valley where crime dropped:

Orange County

  • Percent change: -8.4%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 6,739
  • Total crimes in 2016: 7,313

Westchester County

  • Percent change: -7.9%
  • Crimes per 100,000 in 2017: 1,181
  • Total crimes in 2016: 12,537

Dutchess County

  • Percent change: -7.2%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 3,834
  • Total crimes in 2016: 4,116

Rockland County

  • Percent change: -5.0%
  • Total crimes in 2017: 3,404
  • Total crimes in 2016: 3,561

Ulster County

  • Percent change: -3.4%
  • Crimes per 100,000 in 2017: 1,421
