Hudson Valley officials are headed to Wisconsin to pitch developers on building a water park in our area.

According to the Times Herald Record, a delegation that will include the Town of Wallkill supervisor and the head of the Orange County Partnership will go to Wisconsin Dells later this month to make a pitch to for a water park in Wallkill. The Dells, which bills itself as the Water Park Capitol of the World, has about 100 attractions, including outdoor and indoor water parks, golf courses, amusement parks, river tours and spas. The delegation is hoping to bring this sort of attraction right here to the Valley.

Wallkill Supervisor Dan Depew said that three sites are currently under consideration. One of which is the parcel off Carpenter Avenue that currently includes the Orange County Fairgrounds and the Orange County Fair Speedway.

Officials at this point are focusing on an indoor water park, that would be open throughout the year. The project could cost as much as $100 million, which they hope could create as many as 700 jobs. It would be located on a 15- to 20-acre site.
