One worker is dead and another suffered injuries when a wall collapsed at a construction site in Poughkeepsie.

The accident occurred shortly before 4 pm on Thursday on the shore of the Hudson River where apartments are being constructed on the former Dutton Lumber site.

Firefighters from Poughkeepsie and Arlington, assisted by Mobile Life, City of Poughkeepsie Police, MTA Police, and the Dutchess Medical Examiner's office worked for about an hour to stabilize a collapsed retaining wall so that the body of the construction workers could be removed.

A second worker was transported to a local hospital with injuries including a possible broken arm and leg.

To avoid a further collapse, train traffic on the east side of the river was halted as was the use of all non-emergency heavy equipment on the job site.
