Police are investigating the death of man discovered in a pool under several inches of ice on Wednesday.

The man's body was found outside a North Avenue residence by a relative of the homeowners, Detective Lt. Lou Lucato said. The relative then contacted police.

The man's identity hasn't been made public, and Lucato said he couldn't comment on whether the individual had any connection with the homeowners. The body was that of an adult male, but Lucato said he wouldn't characterize the man as elderly.

An autopsy by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to conclude on Friday, according to Lucato. He said couldn't comment on the nature of the death or whether it was considered suspicious since the incident remains under investigation pending the completion of the autopsy.
