A man pretending to be a detective from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has been calling residents, claiming to have warrants for their arrests, and telling them to wire money or meet him in person to pay them off.

The sheriff's office received four complaints Sunday.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, The caller, a male, identified himself as a Sheriff's Office Detective, "and then stated that he had a warrant for the person's arrest," Watterson said. "The subject would then request that the person wire money to them or meet them at Rite Aid in the City of Poughkeepsie."
