An overwhelming majority of Americans support the right to walk out to fight gun violence.

Hundreds of students across the country, including the Hudson Valley, took part in National School Walkout at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The walkout lasted 17 minutes, in honor of the 17-people killed in last month's school shooting in Florida.

According to Marist Poll, 72% of American’s think students who participate should not face disciplinary action by their schools. 22% say the students should be punished. 6% were unsure.

Regardless of political views, most nationally say the students shouldn’t be punished. That includes 58% of gun owners, 53% Republicans and 53% of people who support President Trump.

Over 75 percent of Americans, 77%, believe the outspoken students from Parkland, Florida will have an impact on gun reform in the United States.
