If you bought a smartphone in the Hudson Valley, local police warn it might be fake.

New York State Police at Monroe arrested 25-year-old Kareem X. Brown of Goshen following a search warrant at his home on Greenwood Drive.

Troopers and Town of Goshen police received complaints from people who purchased Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge cell phones from Brown through Craigslist.com and Offerup.com.

The phones turned out to be counterfeit cell phones that didn’t work as described, police say.

According to State Police, “Knock Off” cell phones are becoming problems where consumers are unaware that their “less expensive find” will not work once connected through their cell phone provider.

If you have been a victim from Brown, or think you might have been, call the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Monroe at 845-782-8311.

Brown will be arraigned at the Town of Goshen Court.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office also assisted at the scene.
