Just over a week ago we were talking about 9 year old Jacob Thompson, who was diagnosed with a life threatening cancer back in February of 2014, and his family's request for everyone to send him Christmas cards this year.

If you missed the story, Jacob was diagnosed with Stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma and his family was told earlier this month that he only had about a month to live.

Jacobs family had said that they were going to fast forward Christmas this year to give Jacob one last celebration and they asked as many people as possible to send him Christmas cards, which thousands of people did.

Jacobs family had their celebration just a few days and sadly Jacob passed away Sunday, according to Press Herald.

Jacob's family shared the sad news on Facebook and thanked everyone who sent a card and asked that if possible, everyone make a donation in Jacob’s honor, to Operation Gratitude or a penguin rescue group, because Jacob loved penguins.

They also asked that we all do something for others, donate blood and platelets, or use your talents to bring shelter, nourishment or joy to those in need in honor of Jacob’s memory.
