A 78-year-old Hudson Valley woman was killed when she walked into the path of a moving vehicle.

New York State Police at Catskill investigated a one car vs. pedestrian fatal motor vehicle accident on State 296 in the Town of Jewett. According to State Police, 78-year-old Francine Barbet was walking on State 296 from County Route 23C and walked directly into the path of a 2004 Jeep.

The vehicle was operated by 65-year-old Joseph Disanti, of Shirley. Barbet was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. She succumbed to her injuries there.

Police say the investigation into the accident is ongoing. At this time, no charges have been filed.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Greene County Sheriff’s Dept, East Jewett Fire Dept and the Ashland Rescue Squad.
