There are already 26 Hudson Valley stores that have pledged to close on Thanksgiving, giving their employees and customers the day off.

Over the past few years, retail stores have slowly moved up their Black Friday sales, forcing customers and employees to interrupt their Thanksgiving dinners to battle for the year's biggest sales.

Now, it seems, the backlash from workers and consumers has started to have an impact. Stores have already begun announcing that they will be closed on Thanksgiving this year. The vow to take the day off is in direct response to consumers and employees who say they've had enough.

Bestblackfriday.com has compiled a list of the national retailers who will keep their doors shut on turkey day. We were surprised to find some of the most popular Hudson Valley stores on the list:

  • A.C. Moore
  • ACE Hardware
  • AT&T (corporate stores)
  • Barnes & Noble
  • BJ's Wholesale Club
  • Bob's Discount Furniture
  • Burlington
  • DressBarn
  • H&M (Mall stores may need to open if the Gallerias force them to)
  • Harbor Freight Tools
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • HomeGoods
  • JOANN stores
  • Lowe's
  • Marshall's
  • Mattress Firm
  • Petco
  • Petsmart
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • Raymour & Flanigan Furniture
  • Sam's Club
  • Spring (Retail Stores)
  • Staples
  • TJ Maxx
  • Tractor Supply Co.

While these corporations have vowed to close down for the day, businesses located inside shopping malls may need to open as per their lease agreements. Most malls force their businesses to be open whenever the mall opens its doors.

It's also important to note that there are also many locally owned businesses that have yet to announce whether they will be open on Thanksgiving or not. We'll be sure to update the list as we get closer to turkey day.
