One person lost his life in the Hudson Valley when a car crashed head-on into a fuel tanker.

According to State Police, on Friday around 1:30 a.m., a Toyota Celica heading north on Route 32 in the area of Ridge Road crossed into the southbound lane and struck head-on a Kenworth fuel tanker carrying approximately 8,500 gallons of gasoline.

A male passenger of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Medical Examiner. His name hasn’t been released.

The driver of the Toyota, an unnamed man, was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center with lower body and internal injuries.

The driver of the fuel tanker suffered minor injuries.

As a result of the accident, approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled.
Orange County HAZMAT responded to the scene for spill clean-up. None of the gasoline in the tanker was spilled. A section of Route 32 was closed for spill clean-up and to allow for the transfer of the 8,500 gallons of gasoline into a new fuel tanker.

The investigation remains ongoing.
